Understanding your speed test results
1. What the numbers mean
- Download: how fast data reaches you; matters for streaming, browsing and downloads.
- Upload: how fast you send data; matters for video calls, live streams and cloud backups.
- Ping: round-trip delay; matters for gaming and calls.
- Jitter: variation in ping; high jitter causes choppy calls.
2. Getting accurate results
- Close apps and browser tabs that are downloading or streaming.
- Pause other devices on the same network during the test.
- On Wi-Fi, move closer to the router, or use a LAN cable to test your full plan speed.
- Compare results at different times of day; evenings are usually busiest.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this speed test?
It measures real transfers to Cloudflare's global network for about 8 seconds of download and 6 seconds of upload. Results depend on your device, Wi-Fi signal and other traffic on your network, so run it two or three times for a reliable picture.
What is a good internet speed in Vietnam?
Fibre plans from Viettel, VNPT and FPT commonly offer 150 Mbps to 1 Gbps. For video calls and HD streaming, 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload are enough per person; 4G/5G mobile speeds vary widely by location.
What do ping and jitter mean?
Ping is the time for a small packet to reach the server and come back. Under 30 ms feels instant for gaming and calls. Jitter is how much ping varies; under 5 ms means a stable connection.
Why is international browsing sometimes slow in Vietnam?
Most international traffic travels through a few undersea cables. When one of them is damaged, international speeds and latency can suffer for weeks while domestic speeds remain normal.
